We frolicked fancy free when girl and boy
In pastures new with cries of sheer delight,
We lived a life of timeless, endless joy
Where mother’s love kept evil out of sight.
No mother now, no mother’s loving gaze
Capricious Nature mocks, as if to tease
And dash once childish hopes and infant ways
And scatter dreams upon a fateful breeze.
Yet in amongst this world of disarray
We knew a soul of boundless, modest grace,
Her goodness touched a thousand folk - so pray
That her reward, not here but in a place
Where her beloved partner came to rest,
Shall be eternal love and peace, most blessed.
